An article by Scape magazine highlights the incredible work of Urban Think Tank, an organization whose ‘Empower Upgrade Model’ has turned a township settlement in Cape Town into a resilient urban ecosystem. This award-winning model focuses on enhancing livability through education, recreation, economic opportunity, and community-led care, creating long-term sustainable solutions for the community.
An important factor of the ‘Empower Upgrade Model’ is its emphasis on long-term sustainability. This includes implementing off-grid energy solutions, passive ventilation, and water storage systems. These initiatives reduce the community’s reliance on traditional infrastructure and create a more environmentally friendly and sustainable community.
